The method was previously characterized as sensitive for analysing the transport frequency and distance of highly diffusive hydrogen atoms or water molecules in condensed matter. Here are shown the results of its application to analyse the transport of much slower hydrogen atoms which are bonded into a crystal lattice as hydroxyls. Two types of hydrogen transport process were observed in brucite, Mg(OH) : a jump within a single two-dimensional layer of the hydrogen lattice and a jump into the next nearest layer of it. These transport processes observed within the prototypical structure of brucite have direct implications for hydrogen transport phenomena occurring within various types of oxides and minerals having layered structures.

At the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), a pulsed spallation neutron source provides neutrons with high intensity and narrow pulse width to promote researches on a variety of science in the Materials and life science experimental facility. It was designed to be driven by the proton beam with an energy of 3 GeV, a power of 1 MW at a repetition rate of 25 Hz, that is world's highest power level. A mercury target and three types of liquid para-hydrogen moderators are core components of the spallation neutron source. It is still on the way towards the goal to accomplish the operation with a 1 MW proton beam. In this paper, distinctive features of the target-moderator-reflector system of the pulsed spallation neutron source are reviewed.

R&D of the IS process technology and the integration technology of a high-temperature gas reactor and a heat utilization system is advanced by Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute. Hydrogen suuply system to fuel cell cars consists of off-site system and on-site system. The cost evaluation of on-site system must include the cost of storage, transportation, and refueling as well as that of production. Moreover, the hydrogen produced with the fossil fuel must consider the cost of carbon dioxide disposal. The cost evaluation data related to storage, transportaion and refueling in Japan and the USA are investigated. The cost evaluation of several off-site and on-siste systems are carried out.

The disordered hydrogen atoms are introduced by electron irradiation with 0.5 MeV electrons below 15 K. The disordered atoms order by migration of hydrogen atoms during the heating-up of the specimens. The recovery curves of electrical resistivity have two sub-stages for electron irradiated specimens and one stage for fast cooled specimens. The migration energy of hydrogen is obtained from the kinetic analysis of the resistivity change due to the ordering, using the cross-cut method for the electron irradiated specimen and fast cooled specimen. The obtained value of the migration energy for the low temperature stage is smaller than that for the high temperature stage. The value for the high temperature stage is similar to the energy for the case of fast cooling. The difference between the hydrogen atoms disordered by irradiation and that by fast cooling is discussed for Pd based alloys.

Fuel debris after post accident has wide-ranging characters depending on the accident progression paths. Their physical forms should also vary due to retrieval methods. With those changing variables, proper management methods have to be selected. Besides, the long-term alterations of fuel debris have to be considered. In the analytical system, DEM (discrete element method) is applied to simulate water-containing debris of arbitrary particle-size distribution. Monte Carlo particle transportation analysis is applied before and after water draining. The simulation can be made for both experimental
